------- ASISWG at STARS'92 ASISWG held a Birds-of-a-Feather session from 7:00-9:00 PM on Tuesday evening, 8 December 1992. The title of the session was "The Evolution of ASIS: Peeking into Ada's Library". Clyde Roby gave a short introduction. There would also be a discussion of the evolution of ASIS and its use including: the status of ASIS, recent ASISWG meetings, and practical uses of ASIS with project experiences. He showed the same AdaBoard motion slide from Tri-Ada as well as the ASISWG Charter. Jim Bladen of TeleSoft then gave a presentation on ASIS: What ASIS is, Genesis of ASIS, the TeleSoft Implementation, ASIS is Real. Jim then presented some success stories: IBM's System/1 Satellite Communications program, the McDonnell Douglas F-15 program, VSF Ltd, Odyssey Research Associates, TeleSoft's Distributed Ada Configuration Tool (TDACT). He followed this with the historical time-line of ASIS including STARS involvement in creating an initial ASIS Working Group. Mickey White of IBM Boulder described in more detail their System/1 Satellite Communications System: the Problem, Alternate Solutions, ASIS as the Solution, How ASIS Works for their application, Implementation of the Delogger, Lessons Learned. He went more into detail on how ASIS works for this application at this BoF than at Tri-Ada's BoF. Discussion followed. Are System/1's additional interfaces in the updated ASIS? Mickey sent a message to the email list requesting to include the attributes they needed (at least the static ones) in ASIS 1.1. Dynamic semantics will be brought up when work begins on ASIS 2.0 for Ada9X. A lot of people would like a write capability -- ASIS is currently read-only. -------
