There is no advantage to declaring special subtypes of Character and
String, (ASIS.ASIS_Character and ASIS.ASIS_String respectively.) I
recommend that these subtypes be replaced by Character and String
throughout the interface and the subtype declarations be removed.

Asis_Character and Asis_String were replaced by the Ada 95 types,
Character and String, respectively.

Asis_Character and Asis_String were required for ASIS implementations
to Ada 87 to insulate ASIS tools from implementation dependencies.  In
Ada 87, a variety of character sets were used to support extended
character sets.  This is no longer required for ASIS for Ada 95.

The two subclauses were eliminated and subsequent subclauses were
renumbered.

Changes were made in ASIS version 2.0.M.
