Focused workshops are important in evolving Ada technology to better meet the needs of the Ada community. Workshops are free for those registered for the conference. The following workshops are currently planned for SIGAda 2006.
- BoF: AdaCore's GNAT Academic Package (GAP), Edmond Schonberg
Wednesday, November 15, 4:00 - 5:00 PMThis session will provide an update on the implementation of the new language standard in GNAT, as well as a summary of AdaCore’s GNAT Academic Program (“GAP”).
AdaCore has been actively involved in the implementation of Ada 2005, and most of the features of the upcoming standard are now available in GNAT releases. We will provide a survey of these features and describe the roadmap for the full implementation of Ada 2005 in the GNAT technology.
GAP is an AdaCore initiative to promote Ada in academia by making the GNAT development environment available to professors and their students. The GAP program now has well over 100 colleges and universities worldwide enrolled as participants. Thanks to the implementation of Ada 2005 features in the GAP release, educators can present Ada at its best, in the context of contemporary language design.
- BoF: POSIX Ada Binding, Stephen Michell
Wednesday, November 15, 5:00 - 6:00 PMAda Interface to POSIX : IS 14519:1998
The Ada Interface to POSIX was produced in 1998 to define the interface between IS 9652:195 Ada and IS 9945:1996 POSIX. Since this time Ada has been updated as has POSIX and both are in the process of revision again, but IS 14519 has not been updated. At the September ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC22 plenary meeting, WG9 Ada was given the responsibility of maintaining the Ada POSIX binding document.
The first step is to determine how much energy there is in the community to undertake a maintenance effort of the Ada Interface to POSIX. From this we will determine how such an effort can move forward and help WG9 plan for possible maintenance of this document.
Stephen Michell, head of CAC-JTC1-SC22 Canadian Advisory Group on Programming Languages will lead the discussions.
- Workshop: Ada Semantic Interface Specification Working Group (ASISWG) / Rapporteur Group (ASISRG), Bill Thomas
Wednesday, November 15, 6:00 - 7:00 PMAdditional workshops or Birds-of-a-Feather (BoF) sessions are welcome. Workshops have a focused objective and result in a report to be published in Ada Letters. BoFs are informal discussion groups. If you would like to propose a Workshop or BoF, please contact the Workshops Chair, Alok Srivastava, Alok.Srivastava at AUATAC.Com
