Barry Boehm (University of Southern California)
Predicting the Future  of Computer Systems and Software Engineering

Who better to prognisticate the future than one who has been inventing the future for almost 30 years?  Barry Boehm doesn't claim to be a futurist, but in his three-plus decades as a manager at Rand, chief engineer/scientist at TRW, office director at DARPA, and now founder and Director of the Center for Software Engineering and professor at USC, Barry's list of landmark innovations is the envy of our profession: COCOMO, the Spiral Model, Mega-Programming, risk management advances, Win-Win, as well as being an early proponent of modern programming practices in the 70's and integrated development environments in the 80's ... the list goes on.  Fresh from looking into the next millenium by chairing the 21st International Conference on Software Engineering in Los Angeles in May, Barry will share with us his perspectives, visions, and hopes for the future of our field.
