More Portland Facts

Portland is a great town for foodies, and also has more small breweries than any other city in the world. Beervana: There are 32 craft breweries within the city limits; 38 in the Portland metro area. Lots of pubs, too.
In 1912, Simon Benson, lumberman and civic leader, commissioned 4-bowl drinking fountains with a $10,000 gift, to give loggers an alternative to beer. Alcohol sales decreased 40%. There are now 52 Benson Bubblers. Try it - Portland has excellent drinking water from Mt. Hood watershed!
Portland gets awards for livability and for “green” (environmentally advanced) buildings.
Portland “creatives” have strange humor, e.g. little plastic horses tied up to 19th-century horse rings. There are about 200 of these around the city!
